MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme – Zero Defect Zero Effect
National scheme that supports MSMEs to adopt world-class manufacturing and sustainable
practices, offering substantial
subsidy on the cost of ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect)
certification across Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
All Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in India with valid Udyam / MSME registration can apply for ZED certification.
Manufacturing or service units that are operational and willing to adopt / demonstrate ZED parameters in processes and systems.
MSMEs need to take the ZED Pledge and register on the ZED portal before applying for any certification level.
Enterprise must be ready to implement and maintain quality, safety, energy efficiency and environmental practices as per ZED framework.
Scheme is open across sectors; detailed requirements may vary based on type of industry and risk profile.
Women, SC/ST-owned units and MSMEs in special regions can avail additional subsidy on top of base percentage.

Provision for consultancy and handholding support to help MSMEs close gaps and reach desired ZED level.
ZED-certified units gain stronger credibility with buyers, supply chains and government tenders that value quality and sustainable sourcing.
Create an account on the ZED portal, take the ZED Pledge and complete basic MSME and Udyam details.
Carry out self-assessment against ZED parameters, prepare and upload required documents on quality, environment, safety and processes.
Select Bronze, Silver or Gold level based on current maturity; pay the subsidised certification fee as shown on the portal.
Undergo remote/onsite assessment, address any non-conformities and receive ZED certificate on successful compliance with criteria.
